Viettel BTS Digital Twin Platform Nominated for Best Digital Transformation Project

19/11/2025

Viettel BTS Digital Twin has been named one of the top five nominees for the Glotel Awards in the category "Best Digital Transformation Project" for 2025.

The Glotel Awards are one of the leading international awards in the field of telecommunications and technology. Held annually since 2012, the awards aim to honor outstanding initiatives and digital transformation projects that contribute to shaping the future of the global telecommunications industry.

Surpassing many major technology and telecommunications companies, Viettel BTS Digital Twin has helped Viettel AI become the sole Vietnamese representative included in the shortlist for the final round of the Glotel Awards 2025 in the Best Digital Transformation Project category.

This achievement not only affirms the Vietnamese enterprise's capacity for innovation and its ability to master core technologies, but also demonstrates that the quality of "Make in Vietnam" products is increasingly being recognized on the international stage.

Digital Twin is a technology that creates a virtual version of physical objects or systems, continuously connected to real-world data to monitor, forecast, and optimize infrastructure operations.

Recognizing the potential of this advanced technology, the Viettel Group has researched and developed the Viettel Digital Twin platform, serving key sectors such as transportation, urban planning, construction, culture-tourism, telecommunications, and disaster response. This aims towards comprehensive digitalization, helping managing agencies and businesses operate flexibly and make fast, effective decisions.

Viettel BTS Digital Twin, developed by the Viettel Data Services and Artificial Intelligence Center (Viettel AI), is a typical application of this platform.

This platform focuses on solving a major challenge that Viettel has faced for decades: the management, maintenance, upkeep, and inspection of telecommunications base transceiver stations (BTS), especially in remote and isolated areas, which consumes significant resources and involves many risks when using traditional methods.

Viettel BTS Digital Twin automatically reconstructs an accurate 3D model of the BTS station based on image data collected from drones, thus digitizing the operational process in real-time.

Whereas engineers previously had to climb each antenna pole for direct on-site measurements and inspection, now the entire structure of the pole, equipment, and surrounding area is vividly displayed on a computer, making monitoring and design faster and more intuitive.

The technical team can also directly manipulate the 3D model of the BTS station, such as testing the addition or removal of equipment, measuring technical parameters, or surveying the 50-meter area around the station without needing to visit the site.

Viettel BTS Digital Twin also applies AI to identify pole types, radio equipment, and promptly detect signs of abnormality, such as rust, cracks, or antenna misalignment.

Concurrently, the system supports calculating the pole's load capacity based on wind conditions in each region, checking radio designs, assessing installation locations, and simulating configuration change scenarios like antenna swaps or equipment adjustments.

As a result, all technical options are verified and optimized before real-world deployment, helping to detect errors right from the simulation phase, saving operating costs, improving efficiency, and ensuring safety.

It is projected that when implemented, the system can help reduce the time and human resources for surveying by up to 50%. The mobile network will also be maintained in a stable state, reducing instances of local congestion or connection loss, providing a seamless and consistent communication experience for users.

Viettel BTS Digital Twin not only enhances the accuracy and transparency of infrastructure management but also contributes to changing the operating method, shifting from manual work to data-driven operations. This transforms the telecommunications infrastructure into a smart "digital asset" that is highly adaptive and can be operated remotely.

In 2025, the Glotel Awards feature 24 categories, focusing on Digital Transformation, 5G, IoT, AI, Cloud, customer service, infrastructure, and sustainable solutions. The nominees are evaluated by an independent judging panel based on criteria covering operational efficiency, uniqueness, innovation, and project management capability.
